"God’s law reveals how quick we are to run from him; God’s gospel reveals how quick he is to run after us."
Tullian Tchividjian
"We have come to expect God to be merciful…We demand it. When it is not forthcoming, our first response is anger against God, coupled with the protest: “It isn’t fair.” We soon forget that with our first sin we have forfeited all rights to the gift of life. That I am drawing breath this morning is an act of divine mercy. God owes me nothing. I owe Him everything."
R.C. Sproul, Holiness of God p.126-127

I haven’t been on Tumblr in over a month…

"Because we are the most forgiven people in the world, we should be the most forgiving people in the world."
C.J. Mahaney
"I can’t say this clearly enough: if we are preaching morality without Christ, and using war rhetoric to communicate a battle mentality, we are fighting on Satan’s side. This battle we are in is a battle against the principalities of darkness, not against people who are different from us. In war you shoot the enemy, not the hostage."

I got to visit Tim Keller’s church this past Sunday night. It’s really encouraging to see a church mostly made up of college students like me. Sometimes living in the city makes me feel like I am the only 19 year old who wants to live for Jesus.

"Every time you fall is an opportunity to remember that Jesus pursues us not because we are deserving, but because he simply wants to. Reality check."

"The thirst for glory is not ended by satisfying it but rather by extinguishing it."

John Piper’s advice on preaching “Calvinism”:

Don’t ride hobbyhorses that aren’t in the text. Preach exegetically, explaining and applying what is in the text. If it sounds Arminian, let it sound Arminian. Trust the text and the people will trust you to be faithful to the text.

Out rejoice your critics. The one who knows and rests in the sovereign grace of God should be the happiest saint. Don’t be a sour or glum or hostile false advertisement for the glory of God’s grace. Praise it. Rejoice in it. And don’t let that be a show. Do it in your closet until it is spilling over in the pulpit and the commons.
